Ethiopia has a long history of armed conflicts, leaving behind a dangerous legacy of landmines and explosive remnants of war. 

The impact of past and recent conflicts – including the Ethiopia-Eritrea War (1998–2000) and the 2020–2022 civil war – has severely affected northern regions, where contamination threatens lives, restricts economic development, and hinders access to essential services.

MAG became accredited in Ethiopia in 2024 and is committed to reducing these risks through humanitarian mine action. By working closely with national authorities and local communities, MAG aims to clear hazardous areas, educate at-risk populations, and build sustainable capacity for mine action efforts.
