Project Manager - WAM, Syria

The starting salary package for this position is £48,904 GBP / approx. $67,500 USD including all allowances.

About the role:

The Project Manager will lead on MAG’s engagement in a consortium project aimed at strengthening weapons and ammunition management systems in Syria to address immediate and long-term risks related to weapons and munitions. Reporting to the Programme Development Manager, and working closely with the Technical Lead, you will build and manage relationships with key consortium, national and local authorities, and other key stakeholders. You will manage MAG’s emerging WAM project, ensuring delivery of key components in line with schedule and budget constraints. You will support the establishment of MAG’s WAM activities in Syria, ensuring that our life-saving work addresses the immediate and long-term risks related to weapons and munitions.

About you:

You will have experience working in the Middle East in an international humanitarian setting, including experience establishing, developing, and supporting projects. You should have demonstrable expertise in new business development, including drafting proposals, networking, and contract negotiation. You will be an excellent communicator, with experience developing successful relationships and negotiating with a range of audiences including donors, governments, local partners, and other NGOs. You will have the capacity to represent and promote MAG, and experience producing high quality writing including donor reports. Knowledge of the Weapons and Ammunition Management sector, and Arabic language skills, would be advantageous.

About the Syria programme:

MAG has been responding to the Syria crisis since 2013, working to support development by finding and destroying the explosive remnants of war so that communities can raise their families and pursue their livelihoods in a safe and secure environment, free from fear of death or injury.  In addition to our current programme in the North East, you will also support the safe expansion of initiatives across all of Syria, based on where and how opportunities arise in the future.

  • Salary: £48,904 per annum including all allowances and this increases with service.
  • Accommodation: MAG will provide accommodation in-country.
  • Leave: We recognise our staff work hard and need the appropriate time out to stay motivated. You'll have a minimum of six weeks out of the programme per year.
  • Flights: MAG provides four international flights home per year.
  • Insurance: Programme based staff are automatically covered by MAG's comprehensive insurance package including: Personal accident and medical expenses insurance; Death by natural causes insurance and access to 24-hour medical assistance.

MAG will support the successful applicant with any visa or work permit required, including application, administration and costs, however applicants will need to be able to obtain these within a reasonable time period to be considered for the role, due to programme needs.
