Country Director, Jordan – WAM
Permanent position
The total starting package for this position is £56,228 GBP per annum (approx. $73,096.4 USD) including basic salary and allowances
About the Jordan programme:
Building on MAG’s considerable experience of delivering PSSM interventions globally and elsewhere in the Middle East region, MAG has launched a new project to support the Jordanian Armed Forces’ (JAF) Sustainable Physical Security and Stockpile Management (PSSM), to enhance regional security by reducing at-risk, illicitly proliferated, or indiscriminately used conventional weapons. MAG will work in partnership with the JAF to strengthen their munitions management capacity, enabling implementation of the JAF’s Munitions Infrastructure Master Plan.
About the role:
MAG is seeking an experienced and strategic Country Director to lead and represent our WAM programme in Jordan. This is a senior leadership role responsible for providing overall strategic direction, ensuring high quality programme delivery, and strengthening MAG’s presence and partnerships in country.
You will lead the Senior Management Team and be accountable for the effective management, monitoring and evaluation of MAG’s activities. The role brings together strategic, programmatic and operational leadership to ensure the relevance, quality and consistency of delivery across the programme.
You will maintain oversight of financial performance and compliance across a multi grant portfolio, lead on donor engagement and business development, and ensure strong risk management and security oversight in a complex operating environment. The position also plays a key role in building and sustaining relationships with donors, government stakeholders, partners and other actors to support programme impact and continuity.
As Country Director, you will provide strong leadership to a multidisciplinary and multicultural team, fostering a positive, inclusive culture aligned with MAG’s values and ensuring high standards of performance, accountability and safeguarding.
About you:
You will bring significant experience working internationally at a senior management level, with a strong track record of leading and directing complex programmes. You will have experience overseeing project implementation, monitoring and evaluation, risk management and contract compliance, alongside strong people management experience leading diverse and geographically dispersed teams.
You will have proven expertise in business development, including programme design, networking and contract negotiations, and experience building effective relationships with donors, government bodies, NGOs and local partners. You will also bring experience managing finance, administrative and HR systems to ensure efficient and compliant programme delivery.
You will have strong financial management skills and experience overseeing multiple grant portfolios, alongside excellent communication, writing and organisational skills. Knowledge of institutional donors such as the EU, UN and government departments is important, as is the ability to represent an organisation confidently and credibly at senior levels.
A good understanding of the wider Middle East context is essential. Experience or knowledge of the Jordan context, weapons and ammunition management programming, or the wider arms control and disarmament sector would be an advantage. An advanced university degree in a relevant field is desirable.
