MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is pleased to announce a new partnership in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) with the Jabal Al-Nar Club – a leading youth NGO in the West Bank.

Through this collaboration, a new Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) and Conflict Preparedness & Protection (CPP) initiative has been launched in Nablus Governorate, in the north of the West Bank. The programme aims to enhance local capacity to prevent harm and ensure community preparedness, by teaching affected communities how to recognise, avoid, and respond to explosive threats.

This new partnership was mobilised in early 2026, ahead of deploying five teams to conduct EORE activities. Nablus was identified as the first area of intervention, in consultation with the Palestinian Mine Action Centre (PMAC) – the national authority for humanitarian mine action in the West Bank. The PMAC has highlighted the urgent need to strengthen EORE and CPP activities, particularly in the north.

Across the West Bank, the security situation has continued to deteriorate with increasingly frequent military incursions, falling debris, missiles, and drone attacks. The teams have adopted a flexible and adaptable approach to continue to reach communities with extremely limited capacity to EORE.

Commenting on the collaboration, Chiara Butti, MAG’s Head of Mission for the Occupied Palestinian Territories, said: “MAG is proud to launch this partnership with Jabal Al-Nar Club to expand our EORE response across the OPT. Alongside continued support for our 20 partner EORE teams in Gaza, this new partnership in the West Bank is particularly important in contexts where people face repeated shocks, as preparedness and protection can’t wait.”

Speaking on the partnership, Deyaa Jarrar, Jabal An-Nar Club’s Executive Director, said: "We consider this project a top priority and a highly significant intervention given the challenging context faced by the local community, particularly in relation to safety, preparedness, and protection issues. We hope this initiative will serve as a starting point for expanding similar interventions to other conflict-affected areas across the northern West Bank.

Since the project began, the partnership has moved through a structured phase focused on preparation and capacity development.  A Training of Trainers for EORE officers was delivered in cooperation with the PMAC strengthening both technical knowledge and facilitation skills. This was carried out alongside engagement with local community-based organisations and grassroots centres across Nablus Governorate. These vital EORE messages are delivered through a network of local organisations, supporting inclusive outreach to children, youth, adults and families, and strengthening community preparedness.

EORE sessions and interventions will be delivered across refugee camps such as Balata and Askar, as well as in Nablus city and its neighbourhoods, southern villages such as Burin, eastern villages such as Rujeib, and northwestern villages such as Sebastia and Asira ash-Shamaliya.

This partnership is implemented by MAG and Jabal Al-Nar Club, with support from the Government of Canada and The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).
