This International Landmine Awareness Day, could you help protect the lives of people caught up in conflict?

"The 24th of February 2022 was the most terrifying day of my life. I woke up at 4.30am to explosions and the noise of jet fighters. We slept in our clothes with an emergency bag next to us. We heard air raid sirens for the first time outside of an old war movie.

Explosions were a constant part of our lives. We were being bombed constantly, day and night. Every morning started with calls to family and friends to check if they were still alive after that night’s vicious bombingsBut MAG has given me a personal lifeline – a chance to refuse to be paralysed by fear and uncertainty. It makes me feel good to be part of a team working to help Ukraine recover."

We're thrilled to announce this Landmine Awareness Day that Nika and her team have begun landmine clearance operations. So please, mark this International Landmine Awareness Day with a gift and help our teams save lives. Will you help protect people affected by armed conflict? Your gift could save lives in an emergency.

My job as a team leader and deminer has given me a personal lifeline – a chance to refuse to be paralysed by fear and uncertainty. Instead of succumbing to despair, I find solace in going to work, knowing I am engaged in vital, meaningful work.

I’ve transformed my negative emotions into a driving force, channelling them into my job.”

Nika, Team leader, Ukraine, 2024

Could you help protect the lives of those caught up in conflict?

When conflict erupts it destroys lives. A donation from you today could mean the difference between life and death for ordinary women, girls, boys and men whose lives have been turned upside down by the realities of war.

A donation from you of £22 could help deliver lifesaving messages and lessons to people, providing information that can protect them from injury and death. A gift of £48 from you could help our expert demining teams remove unexploded bombs and landmines.

Click on our slides below and find out about some of the work we do to protect ordinary families from the horrors of conflict, new and old.

Urgent safety messages

When war erupts, it is vital to respond as quickly as possible so we can save lives. We react immediately to conflicts across the world by creating specialised online safety messages as the situation unfolds. By rapidly distributing essential safety information, often by social media and radio, we can help keep people safe from landmines and explosives.
