Standards & Training Manager, Vietnam

The salary package for this position is £70,528 GBP per annum (approx. $88,435 USD), including all allowances.


About the role

The Standards and Training Manager (STM) will manage and develop technical training and standards across the programme in all matters relating to field operations, equipment and training, and provide logistical and administrative support to the Technical Operations Manager (TOM) and Standards and Training Unit. This support will include compilation of training management practices and training plans to assist in maintenance of operational effectiveness through coordination, planning and assessment management. This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in MAG’s life-saving work on a day-to-day basis.

About you

The successful candidate must have comprehensive technical knowledge of unexploded ordnance, air dropped weapons and area clearance techniques, including new development.  You must be EOD qualified and have experience of working in EOD operations in developing or conflict affected countries that are contaminated by remnants of conflict, and of managing field clearance and technical operations You will be experienced in leading, motivating and managing a diverse team of people, and in mentoring and coaching others. You will also have experience of designing, developing, and delivering formal or informal training, and the transfer of appropriate skills.

The postholder will be innovative, proactive and committed to high quality standards and continually improving effectiveness and efficiency. The ability to develop, review and comply with security and technical Standard Operating Procedures is essential to the role. You will be determined and committed to high quality standards and continually improving effectiveness and efficiency. You will be able to establish and develop effective working relationships at all levels internally and externally and to represent and promote MAG. In addition, you will possess excellent communication, interpersonal and organisation skills, with the ability to plan and coordinate activities and projects.  Experience of working independently for extended periods of time in ‘stand-alone’ environments with minimal supervision is required.

About the Vietnam Programme

MAG has been present in Vietnam since 1998, and has a well-established programme in country. MAG Vietnam is reducing the risk of death and injury in communities, within two provinces (Quang Binh and Quang Tri), through the delivery of risk education, clearance of Cluster Munitions, and removal and destruction of other items of UXO. Given the scale and size of the Vietnam programme, there are a wide range of support services functions and systems in place to effectively support the delivery of the operational and programme activities, and therefore varied and interesting projects to get involved in

  • Salary: £70,528 per annum  including all allowances, and this increases with service.
  • Accommodation: MAG will provide accommodation in-country.
  • Leave: We recognise our staff work hard and need the appropriate time out to stay motivated. You'll have a minimum of six weeks out of the programme per year.
  • Flights: MAG provides three international flights home per year.
  • Insurance: All international staff are automatically covered by MAG's comprehensive insurance package including: Personal accident and medical expenses insurance; Death by natural causes insurance and access to 24-hour medical assistance including evacuation and repatriation.
