Technical Field Manager, Ukraine (multiple roles available)

The total salary package for this position is £67,656 GBP (approx. $81,073 USD) per annum, including basic salary and all relevant allowances.

About the Ukraine Programme:

Since the Russian invasion of 24th February 2022, Ukraine has been subjected to heavy artillery bombardment, missiles and air strikes, as well as the use of landmines and cluster munitions. The scale of the conflict and the use of high impact and indiscriminate weapons requires an urgent and extensive response.  MAG responded to the crisis in 2022 and is now in a dynamic scale up phase having secured funding for 2023/24 and is conducting explosive ordnance risk education and recruiting multiple demining teams. The programme has representation in Kyiv and Kropyvnytski.

About the role:

Our Technical Field Managers are the core of our work. The aim of the post will be to implement all aspects of mine clearance and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) operations and related tasks in accordance with standard operating procedures and as directed by the Technical Operations Manager (TOM). The post holder will provide training, evaluation and daily monitoring of all technical operations staff to ensure safe practices and build local capacity for humanitarian mine action activities. In addition, you will support the TOM in ensuring overall safe execution of all MAG technical activities within the country.

About you:

The successful candidate must have technical knowledge of mines/unexploded ordnance and mine clearance techniques, including new developments. You must be EOD qualified and have experience of working in mine clearance/EOD operations in developing or conflict affected countries that are contaminated by remnants of conflict, and of managing field operations. You will be experienced in leading, motivating and managing a diverse team of people, and in mentoring and coaching others. You will also have experience of conducting formal or informal training and the transfer of appropriate skills to others and the ability to contribute technical knowledge and clearance targets to proposals and reports. The ability to develop, review and comply with security and technical Standard Operating Procedures is essential.

The postholder will be innovative, proactive and committed to high quality standards and continually improving effectiveness and efficiency. You will be able to establish and develop effective working relationships at all levels internally and externally and to represent and promote MAG. In addition, you will possess excellent communication, interpersonal and organisation skills, with the ability to plan and coordinate activities and projects.  Experience of working independently for extended periods of time in ‘stand-alone’ environments with minimal supervision is required.

  • Salary: The starting salary package for this position is £67,656 GBP (approx. $81,073 USD) per annum including all allowances, and this increases with service.
  • Accommodation: MAG will provide accommodation in-country.
  • Leave: We recognise our staff work hard and need the appropriate time out to stay motivated. You'll have a minimum of six weeks out of the programme per year, plus an additional 10 days as Ukraine is categorized as a ‘Hardship’ location.
  • Flights: MAG provides three international flights home per year.
