Regional Director – Sahel & West Africa
This role can be based from home, on a remote basis (preferably in the UK or in the West Africa region) or from MAG’s Regional Office in Senegal, from where it would be considered an accompanied position
Starting salary of £66,552 plus contributory pension (if UK based)*

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced senior manager to lead a regional portfolio of MAG programmes, with oversight of programme and project development, implementation and delivery and with a current annual value of approximately $30 million.
About the role:
As one of five Regional Directors, reporting to the Director of Programmes, you will lead and manage the Country Directors of MAG’s sub-regional portfolios in Central Sahel, Western West Africa, Lake Chad and the Gulf of Guinea, to ensure our conflict prevention, recovery and response activities are delivered to the highest levels of quality and safety and integrate MAG’s organisational priorities around gender, diversity, inclusion, conflict sensitivity and partnerships. Duty of care for staff and beneficiaries are a key part of programme delivery, and in this highly complex portfolio require sustained focus on maintaining safety and security procedures and frameworks.
The post holder will develop and lead MAG’s regional strategic approach, supporting Regional Programme Managers with the development and implementation of country and sub-regional strategies and annual business plans, as well as identifying opportunities for expanding MAG’s work into relevant countries in the region. Effective and meaningful stakeholder management, including with donors, UN agencies, regional bodies, partner organisations and communities, are an essential aspect of the role. This is a challenging and varied portfolio of programmes, offering the opportunity to use your wide-ranging management experience to influence the organisation and the wider sector.
About you:
The successful candidate will have excellent project management, business planning, security management and programme development skills, and the ability to coordinate multiple activities at the same time. Experience of working in a senior management position in a development or humanitarian organisation is essential, and experience of working in humanitarian mine action sector would be advantageous. Experience of working in this region is highly desirable, and of overseeing the delivery of programmes in complex security environments is essential. Regular travel will be fundamental to this role, which could be visiting a MAG programme, or to meet with donors or other stakeholders – you could be in Manchester one week, then Nigeria or Mauritania after that. High-level French language skills for both verbal and written communications are essential for this role.
