The starting salary package for this position is £42,904 GBP per annum, approx. $57,450 USD including all allowances.

About the Iraq programme:

Following decades of conflict, Iraq is heavily contaminated with landmines and other unexploded ordnance (UXO). The recent regional crisis has added to the scale of this problem. MAG has been working in Iraq since 1992 and has expanded into new areas over the last few years. We currently have approximately 750 locally recruited staff and 75 teams operating in seven areas across Northern Iraq, in both the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) and Federal Iraq. By clearing hazardous areas, MAG has enabled new schools, roads and hospitals to be built, opened up vital trade routes and allowed communities to use their farming land in safety, giving them greater food security and an escape from poverty. Our work over the last 4 years in particular has supported the surveying and clearance of contaminated land, as well as delivering life-saving risk education for those who have fled the violence and are now seeking to return. The HQ office for the programme is in Erbil, KRI, with 6 operational bases in various locations and a support office in Baghdad.

About the role:

The Community Liaison Manager – Team Leader (CLM-TL) is an exciting opportunity to lead a unit delivering on humanitarian protection interventions in Iraq. The CLM-TL will provide senior and strategic support to the Technical Operations Manager (TOM) and be the Community Liaison (CL) focal point within the wider Iraq programme, with national authorities, INGOs and the wider humanitarian community. The CLM-TL will manage a team of international Community Liaison Managers and national CL partners on both strategic and operational levels. The position plays a key role in identifying and recommending areas for development and expansion, as well as advising how MAG Iraq can focus current activities to achieve maximum benefit for beneficiary communities.

Under the direction of the TOM, the CLM-TL will lead the CL unit, made up more than 30 teams, and develop MAG Iraq’s CL strategy and implementation plan. The CLM-TL is responsible for monitoring and analysing progress on targets and outcomes related to CL activities. The position will conduct research on MAG Iraq’s CL approach and its evolution and has scope to employing innovation and creativity to improve materials, processes, activity delivery and beneficiary outcomes. The position also plays a role in providing quality CL input into proposals, reports, and other relevant stakeholder documentation.

About you:

You will have previous community liaison experience working in the protection and/or humanitarian field, with strong management, capacity building and monitoring skills. The post holder will have previously worked with a range of protection/humanitarian actors including national authorities, international organisations and coordination mechanisms.

The successful candidate should also have strong skills in information management and impact monitoring. In addition, you will have a solid experience in community based work and participatory approaches and the ability to mentor and manage a team international and locally recruited staff remotely. Experience in mine action and coordination with mine action authorities and stakeholders as well as knowledge of international mine action standards and current approaches to CL is a distinct advantage. Fluency in English is essential, Arabic language skills are desirable.
