Technical Operations Manager - Southern Sudan


The total salary package for this position is circa $102,700 - $113,000* USD including basic salary, per diem, programme management allowance and hardship allowance.

Since starting in 1998, MAG's programme in Sudan has grown rapidly into one of our largest programmes globally. MAG South Sudan is undertaking a wide range of mine action initiatives and currently has humanitarian mine action projects operating in Greater Equatoria and Jongeli.

As the senior technical representative in country, you will lead, oversee and safely manage all aspects of mine clearance and EOD operations, as well as manage the team of international staff. Working closely with the Country Director, you will provide technical input into proposals and reports, liaise with donors, the UN and government agencies.

As a member of the Programme Senior Management Team, you will need to be able to think strategically and make operational recommendations to enable MAG's work in a complex context.

The post-holder will be managing projects and staff across geographically diverse sites and therefore need to be strong team player with excellent management skills. A patient, tactful and diplomatic approach will be required in this challenging environment. The scale of the country and division of sites make for a diverse range of operating environments and a number of management challenges.

The post holder will be required to spend a proportion of his time in the field moving between areas of operations. There will be a great deal of travel involved with transit through Juba to liaise with support staff and official stakeholders. Because of the political situation in Sudan, you also need to be able to demonstrate an awareness of personal security, cultural and political sensitivities and a diplomatic manner.

Accommodation: MAG will provide private accommodation in-country. Due to the security conditions, this will be in close proximity to other MAG staff.

Leave: We recognise our staff work hard and need the appropriate time out to stay motivated. You'll have a minimum of eight weeks out of the programme per year, with six weeks annual leave and two "Breather Break" weeks per year. Your entitlement to annual leave also rises with service.

Flights: MAG provides three international flights home per year, plus two additional regional flights for Breather Breaks.

Career development: You'll be appointed on a global open-ended contract, offering you job security, with opportunities to work in different MAG programmes, should you wish to develop a long term career with us.

Insurance: All international staff are automatically covered by MAG's comprehensive insurance package including: personal accident and medical expenses insurance; death by natural causes insurance and access to 24-hour medical assistance including evacuation and repatriation.
