Supporters and fans of MAG’s work gathered on 26 May at a special preview of the exhibition, which is housed at Urban Splash’s dynamic development project in New Islington for eight weeks.

Urban Splash Chairman Tom Bloxham MBE announced the formal opening of the exhibition at the Chips building, introducing MAG’s photographer Sean Sutton, whose pictures tell the story of how communities suffer and survive through conflict.

When

The exhibition will be on display until Saturday 17 July 2010 and is open to the public. Please contact MAG at comms@maginternational.org or 0161 238 5485 to request a viewing.

Where

Chips, 2 Lampwick Lane (off Old Mill Street), New Islington, Manchester M4 6BU.

As a photojournalist covering conflict all over the world in the early 1990s, Sean became particularly drawn to the devastation landmines caused to civilians after war had ended.

In 1995 civil war was still raging in Angola and, having seen Sean’s images, MAG asked him to document their work clearing some of the millions of mines laid there.

Sean has been working for MAG ever since, travelling all over the world photographing families and communities whose lives have been wrecked by war, but who, despite their poverty and grief, have the strength to fight their way to recovery.

Sean’s images show how MAG’s work is a vital part of this struggle to survive the peace.

MAG’s Chief Executive Lou McGrath OBE joined MAG’s much-loved volunteers, corporate supporters, suppliers and other special guests at the launch.

“This is the perfect environment to display Sean’s pictures,’ said Lou.

“This whole area of Manchester, MAG’s home, is being rebuilt by Urban Splash. The development going on all around the exhibition echoes the positive changes and use of land that MAG’s work in some of the world’s poorest communities makes possible.”

Tom Bloxham MBE said: “We’re very pleased to be able to help out MAG by hosting the photographic show at Chips, New Islington. Both Urban Splash and MAG are world class organisations trying to make a positive difference. It’s a great show I hope lots of people get down to see Chips and Sean’s work.”

The exhibition will be on display until Saturday 17 July 2010 and is open to the public. Please contact MAG at comms@maginternational.org or 0161 238 5485 to request a viewing.
