PHOTO GALLERY: Celebrating five years of MAG in Sudan

View these photos and captions on Flickr

MAG is celebrating five years of making land safe for communities in southern Sudan with a photographic exhibition in the regional capital, Juba.

Taken by Sean Sutton and J.B. Russell, the images [above] celebrate MAG’s significant achievements, through the destruction of hundreds of thousands of remnants of conflict and delivery of Mine Risk Education.

MAG's impact in Sudan

Hope for the future

The largest country in Africa is contaminated with remnants of conflict, as a result of the 21-year civil war between the Government of Sudan and armed groups in the south that ended with the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in January 2005.

Landmines, unexploded ordnance, and caches of munitions and weapons continue to kill and maim, deny access to land and basic resources, and restrict relief and peace-monitoring efforts.

Particularly at risk are children, who are drawn to the interesting shapes and shiny exterior of many dangerous items.

The exhibition is being held in Juba on Saturday 30 January.
