In an interview on BBC Radio Manchester on Monday, Christian said if he could do one thing while being High Sheriff it would be to help raise MAG’s profile.
Christian explained that one of the biggest responsibilities of the High Sheriff’s role is to support charities and voluntary organisations.
He said: “MAG has been in Manchester for years and are well known throughout the world for their work, particularly in countries which have suffered great strife through war.
“MAG’s work is so worthwhile they were given a Nobel Peace Prize. Princess Diana helped to raise awareness of the issue of landmines, but since then it has become much less well known and I was stunned when I found out MAG was based in Manchester.
“If there is one thing I can do with my year it’s to help MAG celebrate the fact that it is proud to be based in Manchester, and to help it raise its profile locally so that all Mancunians can also be proud of MAG’s lifesaving work all over the world.”
