Charity welcomes Heather Mills' support at celebrity shoe launch

News statement: 28 November 2006

Anti-landmine campaigner Heather Mills launches a celebrity shoe auction in London today to help raise thousands of pounds for conflict recovery charity MAG (Mines Advisory Group).

MAG's executive director Lou McGrath said: "We have very much welcomed Heather Mills' and Paul McCartney's support as it raises awareness for the vital mine clearance work that needs to be done around the world. This is why we exist and we are grateful for all efforts to support our mission."Heather in November auction

He added: "MAG's relationship with both Heather and Paul has been on a professional basis and they have continually brought the issues of landmines and other remnants of conflict to the fore. Heather has campaigned for many years on landmine issues and we consider her continued work against the scourge and in support of MAG to be of the utmost importance."

MAG is currently working tirelessly in 11 conflict-affected countries to rid them of landmines and other remnants of war. We rely on support from many committed people and organisations so that our staff can provide vital conflict recovery work, which is saving lives and limbs every single day. We continue to provide mine clearance, cluster bomb removal and small arms destruction solutions in sHeather with her bootsome of the poorest conflict-affected countries today.

It is a fact that this life-saving work simply will not continue unless MAG can generate the funds needed to carry out this work. Drawing attention to the issues plays a key part in every charity's ability to raise funds and for this reason, MAG welcomes Heather Mills' continued support and commitment to this all-too-often forgotten cause. She has campaigned against landmines for more than a decade and has supported MAG for a number of years, drawing the spotlight onto a problem that many people believe no longer exists.

The MAG Give Landmines the Boot auction features footwear from more than 50 famous people, including David Bowie, Pamela Anderson, Susan Sarandon, Ricky Gervais and Helen Mirran. The auction begins at noon on Tuesday 28 November. Bids for the shoes can be made through MAG's site on eBay - just click here.
