Sidavone Sipaseuth is Deputy Team Leader of the All-Female Team in Xieng Khouang:

"This week we cleared a school playground. When we looked at the playground we couldn’t see anything. But when we used the detector we found UXO [unexploded ordnance] under the surface.

"Since our team started, we have worked in ten villages so far, mainly clearing agricultural land. We clear UXO so that poor families can grow more crops and increase their income.

"The land we clear makes a lot of difference to people. In the past they were forced to use land they knew was contaminated, but now they won’t find any more UXO in the cleared areas. They won’t feel frightened and they won’t have to travel so far to their fields.

"After we have done our work, people thank us, and we feel pleased to help them."
