A pair of Wayne Rooney's airzoomtal football boots, Darcey Bussell's silk ballet shoes and black leather thigh boots from Alice Cooper all go on sale on internet site eBay on 23rd March 2006 in a charity auction of celebrity shoes to raise money for the Mines Advisory Group (MAG).

Heather Mills McCartney has launched the auction in London's Carnarby Street on Wednesday 22nd March with a public display of the shoes donated by 78 high-profile male and female celebrities, from the world of film, TV, pop, sport and the arts. She also donated a pair of her own black stilletto boots - size 6 - from fashion designer Stella McCartney.

Together with husband Paul McCartney, Heather is a leading supporter of landmine charities. MAG employs more than 2,400 people worldwide to help provide safer futures for lives affected by conflict and has destroyed close to two million landmines and unexploded bombs since 1992.

Heather Mills McCartney, who lost her left leg in a road accident in 1993, said: "Thousands of people in former war zones have lost legs as a result of stepping on landmines and unexploded bombs. It's brilliant that so many well known people are helping raise money to stop this evil carnage. MAG's idea to host a shoe auction is inspired because it's a vivid reminder of the effects that landmines cause."

MAG's Executive Director Lou McGrath said: "The response to the auction has been fantastic and has resulted in a spectacular collection of shoes. Events like this make a huge difference to the charity so it's really heartening to see so many celebrities get involved - not to mention the opportunity to have a good look at the footwear of the famous."
