Children in Burundi

Burundi

MAG helped Burundi, one of the world’s poorest countries, to declare itself landmine-free in late 2011, after civil war had left the country littered with lethal munitions.

Iraq

We have cleared more than 16 million square metres of land for the benefit of 750,000+ Iraqi people since 2008.

MIne Risk Education in Sudan

Sudan

Targeting the most vulnerable people, we have carried out 2,737 Mine Risk Education sessions since 2009, to minimise the risks of them or their friends and families being killed or maimed.

These are just a handful of the countless ways in which MAG has improved the lives of millions of people in more than 40 countries since 1989.

Even better, we have done this by training and employing people from the local populations. So, the poorest and most vulnerable are not only beneficiaries of landmine clearance, they also have the opportunity to be gainfully employed in the process.

Ninety-four per cent of our employees are national staff – that's to say, native to the country they are working in – which maximises the long-term development impact of our work.
