This year from 19-29 March, 21 MAG supporters made the long journey to Cambodia to take part in an adventure that could only be described as life-changing.

The challenge started with a two day trek up and around Kulen Mountain in Siem Reap Province, despite the heat and the never ending uphill everyone made it!

For the next four days we travelled to a remote village to build two houses for families that have suffered due to landmines, the legacy of years of civil war in Cambodia.

A former battlefield, one year after clearance

'We only had one son..… now he’s gone'

The poverty, malnutrition and quality of life that is the norm for thousands of people in Cambodia was both shocking and humbling. It was a privilege for all of us to be able to go there and help in what little way we could, especially to work beside the villagers and to learn so much from them.

So far the 21 participants of this event have raised an impressive £69,000 and the money is still coming in. This money not only paid for the houses and toilets to be built but will help save countless lives and limbs across the world as MAG use it to continue clearing the deadly remnants of war.

A huge thank you to everyone involved, the participants, sponsors, the Jesuit Service of Cambodia and Action Challenge.  You are all amazing!

Here's what the Cambodian villagers thought of Community Challenge Cambodia:

...it was wonderful and it was very successful.  I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Whole group. I hope in next future we can work together for these venerable people.  The feelings of the villagers are really unimaginable. They never expected that these foreigners can work and donate the house for the disabled. They are very thankful to all of you for your great help and medical assistance.   For me when I look at whole event it was marvelous and very encouraging. I wish and hope that in next future we can work hand in hand. Once again on behalf of Jesuit Service Team I thank all of you for your great support and contribution.
