Clearing booby-trapped power pylons in Bubanza
Electricity pylons are booby-trapped with landmines, grenades and mortars in Bubanza province. MAG is removing this threat to residents, and freeing land for agricultural production. (21 June 2011)

Securing arms stockpiles
Large quantities of un-catalogued weapons, amassed haphazardly in poorly-guarded depots are susceptible to theft and misuse. These stolen weapons feed black markets and increase the likelihood of armed violence. (31 May 2011)

Responding quickly to a landmine threat
As part of the survey of areas suspected to be contaminated by remnants of conflict, MAG and the Burundian Civilian Defence quickly cleared a landmine close to a school and church outside Bubanza. (29 September 2010)

20,000 grenades destroyed in efforts to reduce armed violence
MAG's efforts to reduce armed violence passed a milestone on July 22 when the 20,000th hand grenade was destroyed since the beginning of the organisation’s support to the Burundian Government. (27 July 2010)

Supporting human security
Since August 2008, the joint MAG/PNB mobile team has collected more than 2,500 weapons and 65,000 items of ammunition, and destroyed 2,483 weapons and 18,919 ammunition. (30 March 09)

Bomb cleared in Bujumbura
MAG has responded to a request for assistance from the police station in Robero district, Bujumbura, because an aircraft bomb had been found nearby. (8 October 08)

MAG supports Army in stockpile demolition
MAG has assisted the Burundian Army in demolishing 664 anti-personnel mines, at the request of MACC (Mine Action and Coordination Centre)-Burundi UN Chief Technical Advisor. (29 July 08)

30 MANPADS destroyed
The US State Department's Deputy Assistant Secretary for Political-Military Affairs visited the Burundian army-operated demolition range outside Bujumbura yesterday to witness the destruction of 30 SAM7 Grail MANPADS devices. (4 July 08)

Project begins with MANPADS destruction
MAG has assisted the Burundian army in destroying 104 Man-Portable Air Defence Systems, marking the first phase of an eight-month project to support the Government of Burundi in reducing the threat from small arms and light weapons and unsecured stockpiles in the country. (29 October 08)
