XFM & Guy Garvey's Payola Auction!

As part of it’s first birthday celebrations, 97.7 Xfm Manchester is set to auction off a selection of band memorabilia to raise money for one of the world’s leading humanitarian organisations, MAG.

V2004 Elbow with MAG dropSince the station launched a year ago, Sunday evening show host Guy Garvey has been accepting ‘bribes’ by a array of indie artists and bands to play their latest tracks. The stash, which includes signed t-shirts, games, books, badges and bikes has been horded at the Xfm studios…. until now.

From 8pm on Sunday 25th March listeners will be able to log on to www.xfmmanchester.co.uk and bid for their favourite items whether it’s a BMX signed by The Stranglers, Arctic Monkey’s fake ID or an autographed drum skin from the Guillemots. Items will go to the highest bidder and all proceeds will be donated to MAG so let’s be generous! The auction will last a week closing at the beginning of Garvey’s show on April 1st.

Xfm DJ Guy Garvey said: “I’ve been involved with MAG for a number of years now and have always been strongly opposed to the use of landmines and the devastation it causes. Getting the bands to bribe me to play their records just seemed like a great way to raise awareness of the issue and generate some money to help a charity that works tirelessly to make people’s lives safer and more peaceful.”

Julia Wright from MAG added: “We’ve been so lucky to have the support of Xfm and Guy Garvey. Every 20 minutes a person somewhere in the world is killed or injured by a landmine, many of them children. All the money raised from the auction is going to help train and employ local people living in landmine affected areas to clear mines, cluster bombs, mortars and other tools of armed conflict.

“It’s a diverse collection of items but if I was bidding I’d definitely go for the BMX so that MAG could organise a bunny-hopping competition. Either that or Guy Garvey’s birth certificate as he must be older than he says he is!”

Tune in to Guy Garvey on 97.7 Xfm Manchester from 8pm until 10pm on Sunday 1st April to hear how much money we have raised.
