Friday
A low key start ceremony outside St Pancras Station and we head on our way. Firstly along Londons bustling roads then via minor roads to Harwich (lunch on the way). This 89-mile route will be a gradual transition from the morning madness of central London, then through the east London suburbs and into the Essex countryside. Then onto the salt town of Malden from where the lanes become ever more rural. We will then cycle onto the first Roman town of Colchester from where the final 15 or so miles roll through the wetlands leading to the port of Harwich where we load the bikes onto the support truck, take supper locally and board our overnight ferry across to Holland.
Saturday
After a energising breakfast we take on the 59 rather flat but gloriously Dutch miles to Amsterdam. The later part of this route will follow the sides of the famous Dutch canals right into the heart of one of Europe’s most historic and interesting cities. A couple of hours will be free to explore this compact and relaxed city centre where world trade originated in the 15th century. Late afternoon we will head for a further 60-miles south to Molens van Kinderdijk, a picture postcard sight of the famous Dutch windmills. Evening meal will be in our hotel.
Sunday
An early start is required as this will be a long day on the saddle to reach Brussels, again following quieter minor roads. After a couple of hour’s cycle we will cross the border into Belgium. The rest of today’s route is punctuated by the distinctive rural Belgian villages. An early evening arrival at our hotel will mean time for a shower and a drink at the bar before our celebration meal.
Monday
The morning will be free to explore Brussels before boarding a mid afternoon Eurostar back to St Pancras where we will be greeted by friends and family.
