VIETNAM: Partnership with government strengthened

The long-standing partnership between the Government of Vietnam and MAG has been strengthened by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding lasting a further three years to 2011.

Lou McGrath OBE signed on behalf of MAG, alongside Mr Nguyen Huu Hoai, Vice-Chairman of the People’s Provincial Committee of Quang Binh Province.

The agreement means MAG can continue to deploy a minimum of four Mine Action Teams and two Community Liaison (CL) teams to identify, remove and destroy unexploded ordnance.

Much of the identification is made possible though the CL teams who survey households in advance of any clearance to help identify the location of unexploded ordnance.

The new agreement also allows for accelerating the development of local MAG staff members so that they can fill senior posts within the organisation in Vietnam.

MAG Executive Director Lou McGrath, Vice-Chairman of the People’s Provincial Committee of Quang Binh Province Mr Nguyen Huu Hoai and staff from the two organisations.
