SRI LANKA: Survey and demarcation

Survey and demarcationDemarcation

MAG have supported the local Humanitarian Demining Unit (HDU) staff undertaking technical survey and fencing activities. Up to eighty kilometres of fencing will surround dangerous areas in the region in order to eliminate the threat of people finding themselves unknowingly in a mined environment. Minefields identified through technical surveys are entered into the Vanni prioritisation system for clearance, which evaluates each task in terms of community needs and the impact the taks will have. MAG continues to support the Regional Mine Action Office (RMAO) in the prioritisation of tasks.

Twenty seven dangerous areas have now been fenced off, protecting those who live close by from accidently walking into a contaminated region.
