The Vanni region of Sri Lanka encompasses Kilinochchi, Mullaithivu and Vavuniya. MAG have been working there since 2002 and in spite of the recent deterioration in the security situation, significant progress has been made.
Funding provided by the European Commission has enabled MAG to conduct mine risk education, survey and demarcation, landmine and unexploded ordnance (UXO) clearance, battle area clearance and the development of mechanical clearance.
