The British High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, Dr Peter Hayes, has visited an area MAG is clearing in Pankuneveli, Batticaloa District.
As part of his wider visit to the Eastern region between 22 and 24 January – which focussed on the discussion of security and development challenges in the east – Dr Hayes witnessed first-hand the contribution MAG makes through both the removal of mines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) and the release of land in furtherance of resettlement and development activities.

Dr Hayes was then issued with Personal Protective Equipment, before entering the minefield and seeing at close quarters the area being cleared.
