MAG in the media: Jornal de Angola

On Thursday, Angolan newspaper Jornal de Angola featured an article about MAG’s work in the country.

The article noted that between July and September this year, MAG saw a considerable increase in its activities in Moxico Province, the country’s most heavily contaminated province.

Not only did MAG’s humanitarian mine action work impact on numerous communities, the article reported, but MAG was also involved in new and innovative activities:

“For example, as a result of the British NGO’s activities, 245km of road was opened between Luena and Lumbala Nguimbo during the quarter.”

Also, “MAG was involved in facilitating the electoral registration process by accessing mine contaminated areas in order to distribute pamphlets encouraging individuals to register.”

MAG representative in Angola, Chris Dyer, stated that this is a significant achievement for the organisation and the people of Moxico, it continued:

“’We very much look forward to building on our achievements in the latter stages of the year which will, I believe, set the tone for 2008,’ he said, before thanking donors and the Angolan authorities for their continued commitment to MAG’s work.”
