MAG in the media: Daily Record

Tony shunned quiet life to help clear minefields.

Scottish newspaper the Daily Record recently featured an article on MAG Iraq’s Technical Field Manager Tony Bean.

“Having spent 24 years in the Royal Navy as a mine clearance diver and bomb disposal expert, you wouldn't blame Tony Bean for wanting some peace and quiet.

“Rather than putting his feet up for a while, the dad-of-three embarked on a new and equally dangerous career.

“Based in Erbil, in the north of Iraq, Tony works as a technical field manager leading teams who risk their lives working in the minefields, clearing areas of land so they can once again be used by local communities.

“He said: "Their future is very positive. We've brought happiness to these communities by clearing land so villages can use it for agriculture and, in most of the areas we've dealt with, they're now prospering.

“"There's a lot of work to do out here but we're making progress every day.”
