MAG is delighted to announce the appointment of Nick Roseveare MBE as its new Chief Executive.
Nick joins MAG after more than three years as the Chief Executive of Bond, the membership body for 370 UK non-governmental organisations working in international development.
He will take up the post in November, succeeding Lou McGrath who was a co-founder of MAG and Chief Executive from 1996 until earlier this year.
Speaking about his appointment, Nick said: “Having known and respected its work at field and policy and campaigning levels for many many years, I feel immensely privileged and proud to be joining MAG as it maps out its future in a changing and challenging world – and when MAG’s expertise and experience is clearly, sadly, needed more than ever.”
At Bond, Nick has led a process of change, during which the network's leadership in the international development sector, and the influence it exerts on UK, EU and global development aid policy, have both increased.
Nick's wealth of international development and humanitarian experience includes 20 years' service with Oxfam. He spent 10 years in field and country management roles, living in Sudan, Ethiopia and Mozambique during periods of conflict and recovery. A further decade in specialised humanitarian roles followed, from 2000 to 2008 as deputy, then as Humanitarian Director, for global emergency response.
These years included leadership of Oxfam’s responses to post-9/11 events in Afghanistan and Pakistan, Iraq, the Tsunami, Darfur, the Pakistan earthquake, and the ongoing Congo crisis. He also served briefly as Regional Director for Oxfam in West Africa.
Awarded the MBE in 1997 for services to development in Mozambique, Nick has also undertaken a variety of Board roles, including with the SPHERE Project for global humanitarian standards, and as a Trustee of the Diana, Princess of Wales, Memorial Fund.
Nick was a founder member of both the Mozambique branch of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines and of the UK NGO/Military Contact Group. He currently serves as a member of the BBC Appeals Advisory Committee.
Michael Taylor, Chair of the MAG Board of Trustees said: “Nick Roseveare is an excellent appointment for MAG – with his many years experience of leadership in the NGO sector, he is extremely well qualified to enable all of us associated with MAG to uphold its outstanding record of achievements, maintain its pioneering spirit and rise to the undoubted challenges of the future.”
