A Poem by Timothy Mandei

Landmines

Oh, Abolish!
Abolish you manufacturers
of the deadly landmines

I cry on the top of my voice
that mother Angola, mother Africa's
future leaders are maimed and amputated
day after day, like flies
by your deadly landmines

Oh abolish,
abolish landmines

Day and night the blood of
mother Africa's children
Flows and gurgles like the
water in Kunene river.

Oh abolish,
abolish mines

Alternatively, as farmers,
it's brought great fear and troubles
to cultivate on the soil of
Mother Angola, mother Africa
because of your mines

Oh abolish,
abolish mines

Millions of other people can no longer
use the soil of mother Africa
because of your mines and their twin brother
Unexploded ordnance

Oh abolish!
Abolish landmines!
