Audio: Saving lives in Gaza

MAG is responding to the Gaza crisis by clearing unexploded ordnance (UXO) to help basic services such as schools and hospitals function, and raising awareness amongst the people who will be tasked with clearing the rubble on the dangers awaiting them.

Steve Priestley, MAG's International Director for Technical Development and Evaluation, talks from Jerusalem about this emegency response – which is being funded by DFID (the UK Government's Department for International Development) and the United Nations – in an interview with DFID.

"There is going to be a lot of unexploded ordnance, including quite big aircraft bombs, within the rubble of destroyed houses," says Steve Priestley, who is coordinating the support and awareness-raising being given to those will be involved in the clearance.
